Building contractor Ben Kopf built 6319 Castle in 1952 for his daughter, as well as over 800 homes in the East Bay in his long career, including the Alameda home he built for himself in 1922. His motto was “I’ll build good houses for a profit if I can, at a loss if I must, but I WILL build good houses.”

Kopf also built churches, synagogues, cocktail lounges and funeral homes, saying “I can take ‘em right on through from that first drink to the grave, almost -- including marriage!” 6319 Castle was one of the last houses he built, and he maintained his hearty nature. “I was a husky fellow. I got around like nobody’s business. I’ve still got my overalls and tools. I built good houses. I could go back and build one now.”

This part of Castle Drive is a gentle, mostly flat area with direct access to Joaquin Miller Park 2 minutes from the front door.
